Celebrating Thingyan and Songkran Together

Today, our community came together to celebrate two beautiful New Year traditions—Myanmar’s Thingyan and Thailand’s Songkran—creating a meaningful space where culture, family, and joy intertwined.

Parents gathered to prepare Mont Lone Yay Baw, a traditional Myanmar sweet snack made from glutinous rice flour and jaggery. As they carefully rolled each piece by hand, laughter and conversations filled the air, reflecting a deep sense of connection and shared heritage. This simple yet meaningful activity became a bridge between generations, allowing parents to pass down cultural traditions to their children.

Meanwhile, the children expressed their excitement in their own vibrant ways—through dancing, playing, and celebrating freely. Their energy brought life to the event, symbolizing the spirit of renewal that both Thingyan and Songkran represent. More importantly, it showed how young people can embrace their roots while adapting to a new cultural environment.

This celebration was more than just a festive gathering. It was a reminder of the importance of preserving identity while fostering integration. Families were not only reconnecting with their traditions but also learning to appreciate and participate in Thai culture, building a stronger sense of belonging in their community.

At Dāna Education, we believe that cultural exchange and community bonding are essential parts of education. Moments like these create safe spaces where children and families can celebrate who they are, while confidently stepping into new cultural experiences.

Together, we welcome the New Year with joy, unity, and hope and enjoy the dance performance by our students!
